07/02/11 With the 4th of July holiday upon us, we would like to remind everyone that "personal" fireworks are not only illegal in NY State, they are very dangerous. Even sparklers get hot enough to effectively melt gold, and simple firecrackers can be strong enough to remove fingers and severely damage/burn skin and muscle tissue. The National Fire Protection Association(NFPA) estimates that fire departments respond to more 50,000 fires caused by fireworks each year, & approximately 10,000 people are injured each year due to fireworks. Please don't become another statistic. Leave the fireworks displays to professionals. Enjoy one of the many events being hosted around the area, including the annual celebration in downtown Rochester. For info on the City of Rochester's 4th of July celebration, click here. We hope you enjoy the holiday, but be sure to do so safely and responsibly.
